The ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Music Department awards 11 scholarships every year at about $1,000 each and 20 performance awards for non-music major students, which enables them to participate in ensembles.Ìý This could not be done without the community’s support of the annual Music Endowment Concert, which is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 1 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

After conducting more than 400 concerts and directing 45 musicals over his 38-year career, ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Vocal Instructor Vern Fryberger is ready to step off stage and begin his retirement.

But, it’s not because he’s tired of the vocation.

The ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Board of Trustees gathered Tuesday evening for its regular meeting and discussed one of its eight overarching goals, known as ENDs. This month’s focus was on “Work Preparedness,†which deals primarily with ensuring students are fully capable to handle the demands of their chosen careers once employed.

Four original plays selected from the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Theatre Department’s Original Playwright Contest will take the stage in a one-night performance at 7:30 p.m. April 27. Admission is free. This is the first year ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Theatre Department has presented this series.

ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ invites members of ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ County Young Professionals, and those interested in joining, to enjoy food, drinks, music and excellent door prizes at its second annual YP mixer from 6-8 p.m.ÌýApril 28 in the Shafer Art Gallery on campus. A brief presentation will begin at about 7 p.m.

The meal is a choice of pastas and sauces with bread and a salad. Wine and beer will be provided by the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Foundation. Guests must be 21 or older to enter. IDs will be checked at the door.

Area high school students from Ellinwood, Great Bend, Solomon, Strafford, Larned and Hoisington came to ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ to get hands-on experience from art professionals and participate in a juried art exhibit Thursday, April 6.

This year the exhibit and workshop was sponsored by the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ County Arts Council (BCAC).

ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ art students will line the walls of the Shafer Art Gallery with their work during the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Student Art Exhibit juried art show 6-8 p.m. April 21. The show will run through May 12.

The reception will include an awards ceremony where cash awards will be given for each category. The awards were donated by The Credit Union of America in Great Bend, Karen and Dale Shaner, Don and Barbara Beahm, The Great Bend Tribune, Eagle Communications, Bob Feldt, Kent Weltmer and Maureen Leahy.

ºìÐÓÊÓÆµâ€™s Community Service Organization and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will host a 5K walk/run 8 a.m. Sunday, April 30. Registration will beÌý7:30 a.m. in the Fine Arts circle drive at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ. All proceeds will be donated to Camp Hope.

The course begins and ends at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ. There will be two groups: 16 and over and 15 and under. The top three finishers in each group will be awarded immediately following the race.

ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ will be closed on Friday, April 14 and Monday, April 17 for Easter break. ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ's Center for Adult Education and Shafer Art Gallery will also be closed. The college's regular class schedule and office hours will resume Tuesday, April 18.
