What is the FAFSA?

Many questions can arise when completing an application for Federal Student Aid.ÌýConsider the following information when applying for Federal Financial Aid.Ìý

What can students do to prepare?
Students are encouraged to create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID in their account at least 2-3 days before beginning the FAFSA. Review the FAQ section below to find out what information should be gathered before starting the FAFSA.
Dependent Students
For the 2025-26ÌýFAFSA:
- FSA ID username and password
- Social Security card
- Permanent Resident:ÌýPermanent Residency card (you will need your Alien Registration Number)
- Driver's license if applicable
- 2023ÌýW-2 forms
- 2023Ìýfederal income tax return
- 2023Ìýuntaxed income records
- Current bank statements (to report the amount you have in cash, savings, and checking accounts)
- Value of investments
- Net value of current business or farm
Your parent(s) will need:
- Their FSA ID username and password
- Their 2023Ìýfederal income tax return
- Their 2023Ìýuntaxed income records (like child support received)
- Their bank statements (to report the amount they have in cash, savings, and checking accounts)
- Value of their investments (do NOT include their retirement accounts)
- The net value of their current business, farm, and investment records
Independent Students
- FSA ID username and password
- Social Security card
- Permanent Resident:ÌýPermanent Residency card (you will need your Alien Registration Number)
- Driver's license (if you have one)
- 2023ÌýW-2 forms
- 2023Ìýfederal income tax return
- 2023Ìýuntaxed income records
- Current bank statements (to report the amount you have in cash, savings, and checking accounts)
- Value ofÌýinvestments
- Net value of current business or farm
- If you are married, your spouse will also need the same information as above
